Belmont, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball team started a new winning streak after they saw their 11-game winning streak snapped over the weekend. The Bears swept Belmont Abbey 3-1 and 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon. In game one,
Cassidy Wall had two RBI singles and
Lauren Rakes picked up win number eight with a complete game, 11 strikeout performance.
Kylee Leonhardt hit her third home run of the season while the Bears held on for a 5-4 win in the nightcap.

STATS OF GAME ONE:
- The Bears scored first with a Savannah Moorefield walk then Moorefield stole second and came around on an RBI single from Wall. The stolen base by Moorefield was her ninth of the year and 48th of her career.
- History repeated itself in the top of the third when Wall drove in Moorefield again with another two out RBI single. The Bears were up 2-0 through three.
- Crusaders got their lone run from a solo home run by Mackenzie Sprinkle in the 5th.
- A Moorefield RBI single gave the Bears a 3-1 lead in 7th. The hit extended Moorefield's hitting streak to 20 games.
- Rakes got the win, throwing the complete game and striking out 11 while giving up just the one run.
STATS OF GAME TWO:
- LR did not waste any time in game two, scoring three runs on four singles in the top of the 1st. Kory Hammett and Hannah Jennings had RBIs in the inning.
- After the Crusaders scored in the bottom of the 5th, Leonhardt responded with her 44th career home run in the 6th, a two-run shot to give the Bears a 5-1 lead.
- The Bears then had to hold on as Belmont Abbey scored three runs in the 7th and had the tying and winning run on base, but Rakes struck out Erin Frye to end the game.
- Beeler (5-4) went 6 1/3 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) while striking out three.
- Rakes came in to get the last two outs to pick up her third save of the season.
- Moorefield had her 71st multi-hit game with a 3-for-5 day.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Both teams saw their 11-game winning streaks snapped this past weekend.
- Rakes was the NFCA DII National Pitcher of the week this past week. She went 3-0 with a 0.53 ERA with a save, and struck out 44 in 26.1 innings pitched.
- Rakes actually entered today leading the nation with 106 strikeouts and passed the 300 career strikeout mark in the first game.
- Moorefield's four-hit day moved her to 10th all-time in hits in program history.
- Moorefield's hitting streak is at 21 games which ties the program record.
- Moorefield also is two stolen bases away from 50 in her career. She's currently 4th in program history and looking to be the 4th player ever with 50 stolen bases.
- Mardigian has not struck out in her 57 at-bats this season,which is the most at-bats in the nation without a strike out this season.
