Hilton Head Island, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Golf Team secured their second Top 5 finish in as many weeks with a fifth-place finish at the Barton/LMU Invitational.
As a team, the Bears had the second-best score on the Par 5s with a +10 tally; the only team to shoot better on those holes were the winners of the event in Wingate. Lenoir-Rhyne also recorded the second-most birdies at the event with 19.
Freshman Amelia Rae Greenlee led the way for the Bears with the best individual results in back-to-back days with a 74 (+2) score in the opening round, followed by a 72 (E) score on Tuesday. The Sacramento native birded a tournament-best eight holes and finished with the third-best score at the event.
Beatriz Espelosin had a consistent couple of days on the course shooting a 75 (+3) in each round of the event.
The Bears, like most teams, had a much more challenging time in their second stint around the course as they were welcomed with harsher winds. While the Back 9 was the most affected area of the course from the winds, three of the five LR golfers had more success in that stretch, including Greenlee, who shot a 34 (-2) score.
From the first to second day, the Bears dropped from fourth place to fifth, falling behind a pair of SAC teams in Wingate and Carson-Newman, then Lee in third with Shorter coming in fourth.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Golf Team will return to action next week at the Low Tide Intercollegiate in Mount Pleasant, S.C.; hosted by Limestone University. The two-day event will begin on Monday, Feb. 27 at 8:00 a.m.
