Nic Cheeley named D2CCA Second Team All-American

HICKORY, NC - Nic Cheeley joins an esteemed list at Lenoir-Rhyne, as he has been named to the D2CCA All-America Second Team. He becomes the 96th Lenoir-Rhyne Football player to appear on an All-American team, and the first defensive back since Kyle Dugger in 2019. He was also named to the D2CCA All-Super Region 2 First Team and the All-SAC First-Team.

The McCleansboro, North Carolina native is one of just two SAC football players to be named an All-American. Joining Cheeley on the team was Wingate's Marquise Flemming, who was a first team honoree on the defensive line.

Cheeley was a menace for quarterbacks this season tallying five interceptions and four pass breakups. Those five interceptions all came during a five game stretch that saw the Bears go 4-1. In addition to his pass defense, Cheeley notched 65 total tackles, 2.0 TFL, and a clutch forced fumble against Limestone.

Due in part to his efforts, Cheeley and the Bears managed to qualify for their second straight NCAA DII Tournament, advancing to the second round after a thrilling first round victory over West Alabama.
