Cross Country preps for SAC Championships

GREENEVILLE, TN - The Lenoir-Rhyne men's and women's cross country teams hit the road to Greeneville, Tennessee, for this year's South Atlantic Conference Championships.

The race will take place at Kinser Park, with the men's 8k beginning at 9:00 a.m. and women's 6k starting at 10:15 a.m.

"The Ladies have had a really good season so far," said head coach Bob Braman. "They're ranked sixth in the Southeast Region, fifth best among SAC schools. It's going to be a really tight battle from third to sixth on Saturday."

The women's cross country team has put together some impressive finishes this season, taking 3rd at the Converse Invite, 6th at the Queen City Invite, and 4th out of 18 at the Royals Cross Country Challenge. The story of the year has been Maria Carmona, who has set new personal bests in each race she has competed in. The highlight came in the Royals Cross Country Challenge on October 10th, where she broke 18 minutes in the 5k for the first time, coming through in a 17:51.4, taking 14th.

"Maria Carmona has been our leader all season and she'll be in the mix for all-conference honors," states Braman. "After Maria we'll need to pack up and race together if we want to earn a high finish."

The men have consistently gotten better and are peaking at the right time. Everyone who competed in the Royals Cross Country Challenge on October 10th set a new personal best, which has been a trend all season.

"Our Men have all knocked over  a minute off their lifetime bests this season, but they'll have to take it up another notch to finish in the top half of the conference. I love their work ethic and their energy, so I'm excited to see what we can do."
