TROUTMAN, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne triathlon team continues their streak of successful showings, taking second at the East Regionals at Lake Norman. Thanks to this they book their ticket to nationals for the fifth consecutive year.
The highlight of the day came from junior
Zoila Sicilia, who won the individual DII title by over a minute, finishing the sprint course in 1:03:58. This time not only placed her first in DII, but was the sixth best time amongst DI competitors as well.
Taking fourth and battling through adversity was 2023 national champion
Sabrina Fleig, who battled back after a crash on the bike to take fourth with a time of 1:05:25. Her time of 18:07 in the run ranked second in the DII field. Sophomore
Isis Gaskin was just under a minute behind Fleig, taking seventh with a time of 1:06:10. The final Lenoir-Rhyne Bear in the top ten was
Claudia Teran-Romagosa, who used a strong swim to take 10th with a 1:06:52. The final official scorer for the Bears was Robbinsville, New Jersey, native
Ana Brown, who took 13th with a 1:08:46.6. Just behind Brown was
Alex Linden (1:09:38) and
Agathe Claude (1:10:10).
Eva Cronin's 1:14:22 was the final official time for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Head coach
Harley Mason and the Bears now set their sights on the national championships in Tempe, Arizona. The championships return to Arizona after a one-year hiatus in Florida. The 2022 and 2023 version of the Bears won their national titles on this same course, so expectations are high this year. The national championships are set to take place on Saturday, November 8th.
