GREEVILLE, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Golf team started their spring season strong, finishing fourth at the Lander Bearcat Spring Invitational. The Bears shot rounds of 292-284-297 to finish with an 873 (+9). That is LR's best team score since they shot an 851 at this competition last year.
Taking home the team title was Wingate, who finished with an 864 (E).
Holt Allison, who won two tournaments in the fall, shot rounds of 70-69-74 (213, -3) to tie for first. Catawba's Paul Esnault took home medalist honors after notching a birdie on the playoff hole, while Allison and USC Aiken's Oscar Abrahamsson finished with pars.
Matthew McDougall was as consistent as one can get, tying for 12th thanks to three straight rounds of 73.
As a team, the Bears led the field in par 3 scoring (3.08, +1) and Par 4 scoring (4.03, +1). Their downfall was the par 5s, as LR was sixth with a 4.62 average.
Holt Allison was one of just four golfers to notch two eagles in the tournament, and his 37 pars tied him for third.
