GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Bears have posted a strong showing midway through the 2025 SAC Swim Championships.
On opening night, the Men's team placed third in the 800 yard freestyle relay, as the team consisting of
Levi McRea,
Greg Kisshauer,
Brooks Higginbotham, and
Christopher Glebus finished with a time of 6:50.39. The women's team consisting of
Devin Poteat,
Emma Sheets,
Olivia DeRosier, and
Ella Penny came through in fourth with a time of 7:59.56, almost nine seconds faster than their seeded time.
The Bears highest individual finish on day two came from freshman
Greg Kisshauer, who took fifth in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 1:51.38, tying his career best. Qualifying for the B final of the women's 200 IM was
Ella Penny,
Devin Poteat, and
Emma Sheets. Penny led the trio with a season's best time of 2:09.02.
Brooks Higginbotham put together at strong showing in the 1000 yard freestyle, taking 10th with a 9:43.74, just a few seconds shy of his personal best.
The men's 200 yard medley relay team took third, as
Christopher Forsey,
Greg Kisshauer,
Matthew Stein, and
Renato Herran finished with a time of 1:32.56. The women's 200 yard medley relay team of Sheets, Poteat, Penny, and Ann-Catherine Beissel took fifth with a time of 1:50.35.
On Day three
Ella Penny advanced to the A final of the 200 yard freestyle and took eighth with a time of 1:55.09. Setting a new personal best and taking 13th in the men's 200 yard freestyle was
Christopher Glebus, who finished with a D2B time of 1:39.84. After struggling in the prelims,
Levi McRea flew in the finals of the 400 yard individual medley, taking 10th with a time of 4:05.69. Sophomore
Olivia DeRosier went 4:41.65 in the 400 IM to take 11th.
Renato Herran, who won the SAC Swimmer of the Week award two weeks ago, placed 11th in the 100m butterfly with a time of 50.56.
The men's 400 yard medley relay team consisting of
Christopher Forsey,
Greg Kisshauer,
Christopher Glebus, and
Renato Herran took fourth with a time of 3:23.20. The women's team, consisting of
Ella Penny,
Emma Sheets,
Katherine Hudson, and
Devin Poteat, took fifth, just sneaking under the four minute mark with a time of 3:59.96.
After three days of competition the men sit in fourth place with 307 points and the women are fifth at 262.
