Bears split Saturday doubleheader but takes series over Coker

HARTSVILLE, SC - The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball team split their Saturday doubleheader at Coker to take their second straight SAC series. Coker took the down the Bears 17-10 in a wild game one before Lenoir-Rhyne flipped the script and won 16-3 in the night cap.

In that second game the Bears used five home runs and a complete game from Kellen Gradisar to seal the series victory. Sal Carricato went 2-for-4 with a home run and 4 RBI's.   

Mackenzie Wainwright had 5 hits on the day, 2 home runs, a triple, double and 4 RBI's, while Owen Blackledge had four hits and a home run.

GAME ONE INFO:
  • Coker used three walks and two hit batters to help them storm out to a seven-run first inning. 
  • Mackenzie Wainwright got the Bears on the board with a solo shot in the 3rd inning. 
  • The fifth inning was the wild one as LR scored six times to tie the game at seven, but Coker responded with a six-spot in the bottom half to re-take the lead.
  • The teams traded a few runs late as Coker wins a wild one 17-10.
  • Wainwright was 3-for-4 with 2 home runs, a triple, and three RBI's.
  • Nathaneal Keeter had a solo home run in the 8th. 
  • LR had 12 hits while Coker had 16. 
GAME TWO INFO:
  • The Bears did not waste any time responding in game two as they scored four times in the first, twice in the second, and three times in the third to take a 9-1 lead. 
  • LR then scored seven more runs in innings fourth through sixth to win 16-3. 
  • Kellen Gradisar moves to 4-0 on the season as he allowed just three runs and struck out five in the complete game victory.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne hit five home runs in the game as Cole Laskowski, Owen Blackledge, Sal Carricato, Michael Logan and Eli Willen all went yard.
  • The top four hitters (Wainwright, Blackledge, Laskowski and Carricato) went 9-for-18 with 8 RBI's.
  • Eight different players had RBI,s for the Bears led by Carricato (4) and Keeter (3).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Sal Carricato's home run was the 35th of his career, now one way from tying the program record. 
  • Michael Logan extended his hitting streak to 14 games. 
  • Nathaniel Keeter and Mackenzie Wainwright extended their hitting streaks to seven.
  • Wainwright and Laskowski have reached base every game.
  • Bears have scored at least nine runs in ten of their 17 games this season. 
UP NEXT: The Bears will have a mid-week game on the road at Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 5:00. Southern Wesleyan is 3-16 on the season and will be looking to snap a four game losing streak.
