Charlotte, N.C. ? The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women?s Soccer (11-4) fell in non-conference action, 2-1, to Queens University (5-9-1) on Tuesday night at Marion Diehl Park.? After taking an early 1-0 lead, the Bears conceded two unanswered goals en route to their third straight loss on the road.
Freshman Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) opened up the scoring for L-R in the 16th minute when she one-timed a deflection just 10 yards out to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.? The goal was Hawes? team-leading 14th of the season.
Queens answered only three minutes later when Amanda Wright (Salisbury, Md.) chipped a shot in from 20 yards out on the right side.? Kathryn Sylvester (Cary, N.C.) was credited with the assist to tie the game at one.
Queens took the lead at the 52:47 mark when Katherine Carr (Upper Marlboro, Md.) finished a rebound right in front of the Bears? goal to make it 2-1.? The shot came from Kelsey Howard (Marietta, Ga.), who was credited with the assist.
L-R held a 13-5 advantage in shots taken including four on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Katelyn Burwell (Carthage, N.C.) made two saves in the loss for the Bears while Megan Hirschy picked up the win in goal for the Royals after holding L-R scoreless to go along with two saves as she played in the second half only.
L-R will try to bounce back this weekend as it stays on the road in a crucial South Atlantic Conference battle against Newberry College on Saturday.? Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
