Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Showcases Offense With 14-1 And 12-1 Wins Over Pfeiffer

Hickory, N.C. ? The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (6-0) put on a hitting display Tuesday afternoon at Bears Field, sweeping a doubleheader from Pfeiffer (4-8), 14-1 and 12-1, to remain unbeaten on the season.? The Bears run-ruled the Falcons in both contests as they combined for 25 runs batted in including eight home runs.

Game One ? Lenoir-Rhyne 14, Pfeiffer 1 (five innings)

Sophomore pitcher Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.) (3-0) held Pfeiffer to just three hits to go along with six strikeouts while junior shortstop Kat Rivers (Royston, Ga.) was two-for-three with two runs and three RBI including two homers in the victory.

After Rivers? first homer (a two-run shot), senior designated player Ashley Duckworth (Conover, N.C.) followed with a blast of her own to help ignite an eight-run first inning for L-R.

The Bears followed up with three-run second and fourth innings, highlighted by home runs from sophomore first baseman Brittany Davidson (Fort Defiance, Va.) and freshman third baseman Jessica Fellmeth (Waxhaw, N.C.) in each frame, to put the game out of reach.? Rivers' second home run came in the fourth inning as well.

Pfeiffer?s lone run came on an RBI double from Amber Johnson (Spokane, Wash.) in the top of the fifth but it was not enough as L-R won the game by the mercy rule.

Game Two ? Lenoir-Rhyne 12, Pfeiffer 1 (five innings)

Sophomore pitcher Lauren Harris (Yadkinville, N.C.) (2-0) allowed three hits and no earned runs while senior outfielder Brittany Cherry (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) was two-for-three with one run and three runs batted in to lead L-R in the game-two victory.

Fellmeth was two-for-three with six runs batted in as she swatted a double and her second round-tripper of the day for the Bears.

Pfeiffer got on the board first in the second contest when first baseman Mariah Chalk (Hickory, N.C.) drove home second baseman Kylee Nichols (McMinville, Ore.) on a sacrifice fly to right field.?

L-R responded immediately as it posted a two-run second inning on an RBI each from Fellmeth and junior outfielder?Heather Brock (Yadkinville, N.C.).

Fellmeth then sparked a seven-run third inning with a three-run shot off the scoreboard in center, all but sealing the Bears? doubleheader sweep.

L-R returns to action this?Friday as it heads to Salisbury, N.C., to compete in the Catawba College Invitational.? Lenoir-Rhyne opens up with a Noon game against Erskine College followed by a contest with Shippensburg at 2:00 p.m.
