Lenoir-Rhyne Splits Its Final Four Games Of The Catawba College Invitational

Salisbury, N.C. ? The Lenoir-Rhyne University Softball Team (10-2) split its final four games of Catawba College Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Catawba College Invitational at Salisbury Community Park.

The Bears used a five-run second inning, highlighted by senior outfielder Brittany Cherry?s (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) two-run home run, to build a 6-0 lead and were able to hold?off the Golden Rams to take the win.

Sophomore catcher Sarah Atkins (Newport News, Va.) drove in a game-high three runs while freshman Alex Smith (Cocoa, Fla.) held West Chester scoreless on one hit over four and one-third innings pitched to improve to 3-0 on the year for Lenoir-Rhyne.

Kutztown rallied from a 2-0, sixth-inning deficit to hand L-R its first loss of the season.

The Golden Bears? Nicole Colineri (Scotch Plains, N.J.) hit the game-winning, run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out.

Sophomore Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.) (4-1) suffered her first loss of the year for the Bears despite scattering four hits and striking out 10 batters.

Kutztown?s Kyle Arbogast (Ambler, Pa.) struck out 12 batters in picking up the win.

Lenoir-Rhyne 13, Shippensburg 3 (Sun.)
Junior shortstop Kat Rivers (Royston, Ga.) hit two home runs in the Bears? nine-run third inning as Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Shippensburg for the second time in as many days.

Rivers and Cherry each drove in four runs while Smith improved to 4-0 after picking up the complete-game win.? Smith allowed just one earned run to go along with six strikeouts.

Kutztown 4, Lenoir-Rhyne 3 (eight innings) (Sun.)
For the second time, Kutztown rallied in the last inning to come from behind and defeat Lenoir-Rhyne.

The game went to extra innings tied at two before L-R plated a run in the top of the eighth inning for a 3-2 advantage thanks to a Kutztown error.

However, the Golden Bears scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to win with the contest ending on Heather Hannum (Horsham, Pa.)'s RBI triple.

Smith (4-1) suffered the setback.
