Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Wins One Of Three Saturday At The Francis Marion Tournament

Florence, S.C. - The No. 22 Lenoir-Rhyne University Softball Team (22-4) won one of three contests Saturday at the Francis Marion Patriot Invitational at Freedom Florence.

The Pirates' Erin Billingsley (Roswell, Ga.) and Baillie Temples (Midland, Ga.) hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to snap the Bears' 11-game winning streak.

Lenoir-Rhyne broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning on sophomore second baseman Carlee Carpenter's (Newton, N.C.) run-scoring single.

AASU's Megan Barnwell (Brooklet, Ga.) was credited with with victory while L-R sophomore Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.) fell to 9-2 with the loss.

The Patriots' Michaela Wolf (Littleton, Colo.) went four-for-four with two runs batted in and picked up the victory on the mound to lead Francis Marion to the win.

Wolf's RBI single in the top of the third inning proved to be the game-winner.

L-R's only run of the contest Carpenter's sacrifice fly in the the bottom of the bottom of the first inning.

Bear freshman Alex Smith (Cocoa, Fla.) fell to 9-2 on the year after being handed the loss.

Carpenter broke a two-all tie in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run, game-winning home run that was part of a three-run frame and senior outfielder Brittany Cherry (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) finished with three hits, a solo home run and three RBI as L-R snapped a two-game losing streak.

Bear sophomore first baseman Brittany Davidson (Fort Defiance, Va.) also hit a home run for L-R, who collected 11 hits in the win, while St. Leo's Ana Castillo (Phoenix, Ariz.) hit a home run and drove in two in the defeat.

L-R sophomore Lauren Harris (Yadkinville, N.C.) remained undefeated on the season after being credited with the win and improving to 4-0.

Box Score

Lenoir-Rhyne plays Alderson-Broaddus (11:00 a.m.) and UNC Pembroke (1:00 p.m.) Sunday on the final day of the tournament.
