No. 22 Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Holds Off USC Aiken In Doubleheader Sweep, 4-1 And 3-2

Aiken, S.C. - The No. 22 Lenoir-Rhyne University Softball Team (26-4) swept a doubleheader from USC Aiken (12-11), 4-1 and 3-2, Tuesday afternoon at J.H. Satcher Field.

Game One - Lenoir-Rhyne 4, USC Aiken 1 (10 innings)
Junior shortstop Kat Rivers (Royston, Ga.) broke a one-all tie with a three-run home run in the top of the 10th inning that proved to be the game-winner.

The contest was scoreless until the seventh inning when each squad plated a run.

L-R broke the 0-0 tie in its half of the seventh inning thanks to a run-scoring groundout by sophomore first baseman Brittany Davidson (Fort Defiance, Va.).?

USC Aiken, however, forced extra innings on a solo home run by Lauren Locklear (Charleston, S.C.) leading off the bottom of the seventh inning.

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.) improved to 11-2 on the year after limiting USC Aiken to just three hits to go along with eight strikeouts while the Pacers' Kathleen Nichols (Orange City, Fla.) fell to 0-4 with the loss.

Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 3, USC Aiken 2
With the score tied at two in the top of the seventh inning, senior outfielder Brittany Cherry (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) hit the game-winning, solo home run with one out to give the Bears the sweep.

Senior designated player Ashley Duckworth (Conover, N.C.) opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the top of the third inning.? Duckworth and Rivers are tied for the team lead in home runs this season with 12.

The Pacers scored an unearned run in their half of the third before Locklear tied the contest at two with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

L-R freshman Alex Smith (Cocoa, Fla.) allowed just one earned run in improving to 11-2 on the season while USC Aiken's Toni Flessate (Goose Creek, S.C.) (6-4) suffered the setback.

Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Augusta, Ga., to face No. 12 Augusta State on Wednesday in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
