Salisbury, N.C. - The No. 17 Lenoir-Rhyne University Softball Team won both its games Friday afternoon on the first day of the Catawba College Invitational at Salisbury Community Park as it defeated No. 14 Kutztown (Pa.) (4-0) and Glenville State (W.Va.) (10-0).? With the wins, the Bears improved to 9-3 on the year.

Bear freshman shortstop Jody Mizelle (Colerain, N.C.) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh inning with a grand slam as Lenoir-Rhyne handed 14th-ranked Kutztown (4-1) its first loss of the year.
Junior Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.) improved to 4-0 on the season after pitching the complete game shutout.? Millwood limited Kutztown to just three hits while striking out 10 batters.
Kutztown's Samantha Derr (Lititz, Pa.) fell to 2-1 after suffering the loss.

L-R freshman designated player Jessica Fellmeth (Waxhaw, N.C.) hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning and finished with four runs batted in as the Bears handed Glenville State (0-1) a setback in its season opener.
After jumping ahead 2-0 after three innings of play, Lenoir-Rhyne broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning.
Fellmeth's three-run home run in the sixth frame rounded out the scoring for the Bears, who run-ruled the Pioneers (0-1).
Mizelle and junior first baseman Brittany Davidson (Fort Defiance, Va.) each collected two hits while sophomore Megan Laxton (Taylorsville, N.C.) (1-1) picked up her first win of the season with a shutout.? Laxton limited Glenville State to just two hits to go along with six strikeouts.
Glenville State's Ally Southall (Cottageville, W.Va.) was tagged with the loss.
