Hickory, N.C. - The No. 12 Lenoir-Rhyne University Softball Team (25-6, 4-0) took over sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic Conference with a doubleheader sweep of Wingate University (19-10, 0-4), 6-2 and 8-0, Wednesday at Bears Field.? L-R also increased its winning streak to 10 games in the process.
Game One - Lenoir-Rhyne 6, Wingate 2
Junior Brittany Davidson (Fort Defiance, Va.) came through with a pinch-hit, RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the fifth which broke a two-all tie and proved to be the game-winning hit for Lenoir-Rhyne.
L-R jumped ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning on sophomore first baseman Jessica Fellmeth's (Waxhaw, N.C.) run-scoring double before Wingate tied the score at two thanks to Brittany Loudermilt's (Stony Point, N.C.) two-run home run in the fourth.
Lenoir-Rhyne added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning including a solo home run from freshman third baseman Haily Jarman (Wadesboro, N.C.).
Fellmeth finished with three hits and two runs batted in while junior Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.) improved to 12-3 on the year after picking up the win for Lenoir-Rhyne.? Wingate's Allison Smith (Daleville, Va.) was tagged with the loss and fell to 11-4 on the season.

Junior Lauren Harris (Yadkinville, N.C.) won her 10th straight decision with a seven-hit shutout of the Bulldogs.? Harris (10-1)?struck out two batters as L-R run-ruled Wingate to sweep the doubleheader.
Freshman outfielder Jody Mizelle (Colerain, N.C.) led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, her team-leading 12th of the year, and finished with two hits and three runs batted in to lead Lenoir-Rhyne.
The Bears broke the contest open with four runs in the bottom of the second inning including a two-run double by Mizelle.
L-R closed out the contest with two runs in its half of the sixth inning including Davidson's game-ending sacrifice fly.
Junior outfielder Tameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) added three hits and two runs scored and Jarman hit another solo home run for the Bears, who improved to 8-1 at home in 2011.
Wingate's Ashley Brown (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) (5-4) suffered the loss.
