Senior pitcher Dawon Millwood threw a three-hit shutout against Columbus State in a 2-0 win Saturday in the second game of the Hughston Sports Clinic Classic in Columbus, Ga.

Columbus, Ga. - The No. 9 Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (5-1) defeated West Alabama (14-3) and Columbus State (2-0) Saturday on the final day of the Hughston Sports Clinic Classic at Cougar Field.

The Bears took advantage of five Tiger errors and put the game away early by scoring the game's first 10 runs.

Two West Alabama errors spearheaded Lenoir-Rhyne's four-run second inning before the Bears broke the game open with a six runs in the top of the third for a 10-0 advantage.? Senior catcher Sarah Atkins (Newport News, Va.) connected on a bases-clearing double for the Bears in the second.?

L-R closed out the game with four runs in the top of the sixth inning highlighted by sophomore outfielder Julia Wakefield's (Hickory, N.C.) two-run single.

Sophomore shortstop Jody Mizelle (Colerain, N.C.) scored three times while junior Megan Laxton (Taylorsville, N.C.) improved to 2-1 with the win.? West Alabama's Hannah Griffin (Mobile, Ala.) suffered the loss and fell to 0-2 on the year.

Senior Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.) upped her record on the year to 3-0 after tossing a three-hit, eight-strikeout shutout as Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Columbus State for the second time in as many days.

The Bears scored the only runs of the game in the top of the second inning.? Junior outfielder Kristin Lackey (Hickory, N.C.) had an RBI single for the Bears in the frame.

Columbus State's Mollie Russell (Decatur, Ala.) fell to 1-1 after being tagged with the defeat despite allowing two unearned runs and striking out 11 batters.
