Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Sweeps Limestone, 8-0 And 7-4

Lenior-Rhyne University senior pitcher Lauren Harris won the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Limestone College, 8-0 and 7-4, Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field in Gaffney, S.C.

Gaffney, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (33-10) swept a doubleheader from Limestone (13-21), 8-0 and 7-4, Thursday afternoon at Saints Field.? With the sweep, the Bears have now won 11 of their last 12 contests.

Game One - Lenoir-Rhyne 8,
Limestone 0 (six innings)
Senior pitcher Dawon Millwood (Hixson, Tenn.) threw a one-hitter for her 10th shutout of the season.? Millwood (21-5) also struck out three batters as the Bears run-ruled the Saints in six innings.

L-R sophomore shortstop Jody Mizelle (Colerain, N.C.) finished with two hits and two runs batted in while freshman designated player Katie Carpenter (Newton, N.C.) also drove?in two?runs to lead the Bears to the victory.

Lenoir-Rhyne took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning before Mizelle and Carpenter connected on sacrifice flies in the second and third frames, respectively, for a 4-0 advantage.

The Bears then put the contest away with a four-run sixth inning as three players, including Mizelle, connected on run-scoring doubles.

Limestone's Leah Quant (Charlotte, N.C.) fell to 7-10 after suffering the setback for the Saints.

Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 7, Limestone 4
Freshman outfielder Brittany Coursen (Virginia Beach, Va.) and sophomore third baseman Haily Jarman (Wadesboro, N.C.) each hit a home run to lead Lenoir-Rhyne to the doubleheader sweep of Limestone.

Coursen's two-run home run in the top of the second inning gave the Bears a 2-0 advantage and a lead it would never relinquish.

L-R, holding a slim 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning, plated three runs in the frame including a sacrifice fly by Jarman.? Jarman finished with two hits and two runs batted in for the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior second baseman Carlee Carpenter (Newton, N.C.) added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI while senior Lauren Harris (Yadkinville, N.C.) improved to 6-2 on the season after picking up the win on the mound.

For Limestone, Jordan Smith (Goose Creek, S.C.) drove in two runs while Shelby Webb (Hilliard, Fla.) suffered the loss and fell to 5-6 on the year.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday when it hosts Mars Hill in a doubleheader at Bears Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.? Limestone hosts Barton on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m., doubleheader.
