LR Outdoor Track And Field Has Strong Showing On The Final Day Of The 2016 SAC Championships

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Teams finished second and third, respectively, at the 2016 South Atlantic Championships which wrapped up Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track and Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.

Queens won both the women's and men's championships.  The Royals' women's squad totaled 269 points and won their third straight league title while the Queens men's team edged out Lenoir-Rhyne – 145-143 – to repeat as conference champions.

Lenoir-Rhyne won four individual championships on the final day Saturday.  Sophomore All-American Haylea Salamon (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, CANADA) – who was named the SAC Women's Field Athlete Of the Year for the second straight season – won the women's discus throw (145'0”) in addition to a runner-up spot in the women's shot put (38'8”).

Lenoir-Rhyne junior Myles Braswell-Sample (Durham, N.C.) placed first in the men's shot put (48'3”) while freshman Dandrell Utley (Wilmington, N.C.) was crowned the men's champion in the triple jump (46'7”).

Lenoir-Rhyne senior All-American Kevin Baxter (Columbia, S.C.) won the men's 110-meter hurdles (14.30) for the second time in three years and was part of the Bears' first-place men's 400-meter relay squad (41.71).

Finally, freshman Treyvon Bryan (Beaufort, S.C.) placed second in the men's discus throw (144'9”) for the Bears.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams will next compete in the Duke Invitational on Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23, in Durham, N.C.
