Drake Invite Results

The Lenoir-Rhyne track and field team competed at the Camel City Invitational at JDL on Friday and Saturday, and the Richard Drake Invitational in Virginia Beach, Va. this weekend, with multiple wins and school records falling. Lewis Budgen broke the school record in the 5000 meter run at JDL in the first time he's ever run that event, clocking in with a time of 14:57, and Emmanuella Kone broke the school record in the 60 meter dash at the Drake Invite with a time of 7.73 seconds.

At JDL, Malakei Sumner finished 8th in the triple jump (12.38m), Bekki Roche and Ellis Horton both finished 11th in the weighted throw, and Mike Karicher finished 4th in the pole vault (4.55 m).

In Virginia Beach, the Bears dominated.

For the women, Kone finished third in the 60 meter dash with her school record run, Kara Gavaghan won the 400 meter dash (58.41 seconds), and Jordan Shealey finsihed second in the 200 meters (25.48 seconds). Kylie Dahlberg had herself a day, winning both the 800 meter run (2:24.03) and the mile (5:07.05). Teammate Adie Bjerkness wasn't far behind, finishing second in the 800 (2:26.08) and third in the mile (5:16.93).

Melody Jones finished second in the 60 meter hurdles (8.84 seconds), and the 4x400 relay team of Shealey, Taylor Meadows, Gavaghan and Kone took home the win (3:57.58).

On the men's side, Marlin Davis was the number one seed going into the finals of the 60 meter dash, but he was unable to run in the finals due to running the 4x400 race the event before. That relay won the race, and Davis was joined by Lucas Besong, Dario Matau and John Sisson (3:18.54). Davis was also victorious in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.69 seconds. Teammate Trent Davis II finished third in the 200 with a time of 22.06 seconds as well.

Sisson took first in the 400 meter dash (49.14 seconds), and Besong took fourth (51.23 seconds).

The Bears are next in action on Thursday when they head back to JDL for the Champion College Team Challenge.
