Greenwood, S.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball team suffered their first loss of the season in the second game of day one of the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational as Emmanuel defeated the Bears 3-0. In the first game of the day, the Bears used a two-run home run from Camden Gerland and a clutch RBI single by Faith Carrigan to defeat USC Beaufort 3-2.  Talon LaClair had a three-hit day which included her 200th career hit.

STATS OF GAME ONE:

• After USC Beaufort scored the first run of the game in the top of the 4th, Camden Gerland delivered her first collegiate hit, a two-run home run to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.
• Mackenzie Freeman's RBI single in the top of the 5th tied the game at two. 
• Faith Carrigan then gave the Bears the lead for good with an RBI single in the bottom of the 6th. 
• Morgan Beeler then set the Sand Sharks down 1-2-3 in the seventh to pick up her third victory of the season. Beeler came in relief of Lauren Rakes and pitched two scoreless innings.
• Rakes went the first five innings, giving up two runs while striking out nine in the no decision. 

STATS OF GAME TWO:

• LaClair had two of the four hits on the day but the Bears only had one scoring threat as LR had two on in the fourth but could not get any runs across the plate.
• Beeler suffered her first loss of the season as the senior went 6 1/3 innings allowing three earned runs. 
• Lora Beth Wood had a double and Cassidy Wall had a single as the only other hits for the Bears in this one. 
• The Bears were not shut out at all last year during the regular season. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

• Game one today was delayed due to weather. The Bears were originally scheduled to play at 9 am this morning but rain forced it to be pushed back to 1:00 PM. 
• Today was the first meeting all-time between the Bears and both USC Beaufort and Emmanuel. 
• Wall's five-game hit streak came to an end in game one but the sophomore has reached base in all seven games this year. 
• Rakes scoreless streak stops at 22 2/3 innings to open the season. 
• LaClair has reached base in all nine games so far. 

UP NEXT: LR will conclude the Fleet/Bearcat Invitational with two games on Saturday. Bears will play Concord at Erskine at 10:00 AM then travel to Lander to play Emmanuel for the second straight day at 1:00 PM.
