Track and Field Gets Outdoor Regular Season Underway at Bob Davidson Memorial

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams began their outdoor seasons at the Bob Davidson Memorial over the weekend. 

Both teams found most of their success on the track, especially the men who had two top three finishes with Sulaimane Bangura and Jacob Parkinson

The Emmanuel (Ga.) transfer, Bangura, recorded a 47.69 time in the men's 400-meter race. Meanwhile for Parkinson, he grabbed a spot on the podium with a 4:00.70 posting in the men's 1500-meter race. 

On the short track, the Bears had three Top 10 finishers in the men's 100-meter dash, with John Sisson leading all LR sprinters with a 10.85 time to finish sixth. Carlo Heath (10.88) and Royce Turner Jr. (10.91) were the other two members to secure a top finish with a seventh and tenth place time, respectively. 

In the men's 200-meter dash, LR had a pair of Top 10 finishers with Shane White posting a 22.58 time to take sixth place, while Marcus Crumpler squeezed into tenth with a 22.67 sprint. 

Each squad had a Top 10 finish for their respective short-track hurdle events. For the men, Clarence McGill finished ninth with a 15.38 run in the 110-meter race. While for the women, Kennedy Conner placed tenth with 15.29 time in the 100-meter event. 

Transitioning over to the women, Molly McGrath and Abigail Kinoshita placed in the Top 10 in the 100-meter dash. McGrath grabbed a sixth-place time of 12.39 while Kinoshita had the tenth-best time with a 12.57 posting. 

Where the women had more success was in the middle-distance events especially with Olivia Overholt, who finished with a seventh-place time of 2:22.67 in the 800-meter race. 

In another middle-distance event, Paige Ewald placed tenth in 1500-meter event with a time of 4:55.46.  

That was not the only area where Ewald had an impressive finish as she took fifth in Group B of the women's pole vault. Lacey Triplett (2.90 meters) and Melena Howell (2.75 meters) also took Top 10 finishes in the same event. 

In other field events, Sofia Lanina finished fifth in women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.55 meters. In addition to her Top 10 finish on the short track, Kinoshita placed tenth in the women's long jump by soaring 5.44 meters. 

The men also had some good finishes in the field as Oliver Thatcher placed fifth with his 6.60-meter leap in the long jump. Meanwhile for the men's shot put, Dalton Hatley covered 14.36 meters with his ninth-place toss. 

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams will return on Thursday, March 23 for the Raleigh Relays at N.C. State. Some members of each team will compete at the state capital while other members will travel to the Montreat Invitational, which begins on Friday March 24.
