Women's Golf Sits in Fourth After Opener of Spring Kickoff

Full Team / Individual Results

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. -- In the first action of the spring season, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Golf team sits in fourth place after the first two rounds of the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial. The Bears are 21 shots out of first place but just one shot behind Carson-Newman for third. The Bears paced the entire field with 107 pars as a team in the opening day.

LR is led by Charlotte Colley who shot a +5 in her first two rounds. Colley fired an opening round 72 and followed that up with a 77 to sit in a tie for 9th place which would tie her best finish in her brief LR career as she also finished ninth in the Patsy Rendleman Invitational in early October. Colley's +5 is five shots ahead of her best finish in a tournament as she was +10 in her second tourney with the Bears at the Savannah Lakes Invitational. In round one, Colley birdied holes four, nine, 11 and 13 and shot an even par 72. Colley would card four birdies in round two.

Eve Nield was the second-best finisher for LR after day one, recording a +9 to finish in a tie for 18th. Nield rebounded from an 81 in her first round to shave off nine strokes in the second round. Nield recorded birdies on three holes in the second round to finish even on the round.

Narrowly behind Neild was Marta Escudero who finished with a +10 in a tie for 20th. Escuadero was consistent with rounds of 78 and 76 on the day.

Jaya Wilkinson (+12) and Sabrina Kulhankova (+13) rounded out the top five scorers for the Bears. For Kulhankova, it was her Lenoir-Rhyne debut as she was added to the roster after the fall semester.

The Bears close out the Spring Kickoff with the final 18 holes starting tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.

Lander sits in first place as a team as they entered the 2023-24 season ranked No. 20 in the DII Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll. Wingate is in second, two shots behind Lander and 18 shots clear of third place Carson-Newman.
