Brown, Aransiola Win Short Track Events at Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. - In the final competitive weekend before the SAC Outdoor Championships, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams achieved some podium success at the USC Outdoor Open.

After setting the new Division II record a week ago at the Southside Power and Fitness Invitational, Alexis Brown secured another first-place finish in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.13. The sophomore was able to beat out a deep field that included teammate Victoria Aransiola, who finished third with a 11.45 time.

Speaking of Aransiola, the freshman got a win in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 23.24. That result is good enough for a new personal best, which was .24 seconds faster than her quickest time.

Sticking with the women's side, Holly Kone produced a first-place finish in the triple jump event. The junior from Nottingham, England, had a 12.69-meter leap, which is also good enough for a new personal best. It was also the second consecutive triple jump event that Kone has finished at the top.

Flipping back over to the track, Carolin Fuehren accumulated another Top 10 finish in the women's 800-meter race with a time of 2:12.74. After winning the race in last week's Southside Power and Fitness Invitational, the freshman finished sixth in the competition.

Transitioning over to the men, LR generated most of its success from the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.

For the 4x400-meter event, the combined team of Clarence McGill, Bamidele Ajayi, Olawole Olanrewaju, and Jacob Wadsworth finished second with a time of 3:08.03.

In the 4x100-meter race, Sincere Sanders-Moss, Marcus Crumpler, McGill, and Wadsworth finished seventh in the event with a time of 41.11.

Outside of the relay events, Ajayi and Olanrewaju each picked up a Top 10 finish in the men's 400-meter dash. The two freshman recorded respective times of 47.26 and 47.37 as Ajayi finished seventh in the race while Olanrewaju finished ninth.

For the men's triple jump, Nick Henriques came away with an eighth-place finish with a leap of 13.99 meters. The junior from Acworth, Ga., has now collected three Top 10 finishes in the event through the outdoor season.

UP NEXT: The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams will now prepare for the 2024 SAC Outdoor Championships. This year's event will take place at the Irwin Track at the Moretz Sports Athletic Campus from Wednesday, May 1 through Thursday, May 2.
