SPARTANBURG, SC - This weekend the Lenoir-Rhyne Cross Country Teams competed in the Converse Kickoff. One of the largest races during the regular season, the men's race featured 225 competitors while the women's race featured 211.
The women competed in a 6k while the men ran an 8k.
On the women's side,
Sabrina Fleig was the first LR runner across the line, as she finished in 21st with a time of 23:03.9. Joining Fleig in the top-50 was
Zoila Sicilia, who's time of 23:28.6 was good enough for 38th. Senior
Elizabeth Kessler, who has been consistent all season, came through the line in 24:04.5, putting her in 52nd.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bears was
Eliska Rihova, who crossed the line in 24:27.1, and
Maria Carmona, who came through in 25:05.1. As a team, the Bears finished seventh out of 21. Their score of 206 was just ahead of North Greenville and not far behind the host Converse.
For the men, it was
Lewis Budgen and
Jacob Parkinson finishing strong yet again. The teammates from Lincoln, England, worked together throughout the race to take 34th and 35th respectively. Budgen just edged out his teammate, as he finished with a 26:08.9, compared to 26:09.5 for Parkinson.
Freshman
Chase Bryant was the next Bear to cross the line, finishing in 29:06.2. Not far behind him was veteran and birthday boy
Isaac Riggs, who broke the 30-minute barrier with a time of 29:50.9. Rounding out the scoring was
Jackson Owens, who crossed the line in 34:39.7.
As a team, the Bears finished 13th out of 22, narrowly edging out Piedmont.
The Bears will be back in action again this Saturday when they travel to Lock Haven, PA, to take part in the Lock Haven Invitational.
