CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne men's and women's cross country teams took part in their second race of the year, racing in the Queen City Invite in Charlotte. The women finished 6th out of 20 teams and were the first NCAA DII team. The men took 14th out of 21 teams and were the sixth DII team.
Zoila Sicilia led the way for the women in the 5K, finishing 32nd out of 228 runners with a new personal best time of 18:12.30. This also made her the first Division II runner across the finish line. Also setting a new personal record was
Maria Carmona, who came through with a time of 18:22.48, taking 42nd. Freshman
Regly Jemutai continued to improve, taking 57th with a time of 18:51.31. Pacing each other and rounding out the scoring for the Bears were
Caitlyn Christie and
Olivia Overholt, who came in 98th and 99th with times of 19:33.50 and 19:36.07, respectively.Â
Ugolin Anselm was first across the 8K finish line for the men's squad, taking 29th out of 236 runners with a time of 25:29.08. Joining him in the under-26 club was
Bastian Luthmann, who took 58th with a time of 25:55.12.
Cristian Cabascango was the third finisher for the Bears, taking 154th with a 27:44.60.
Chase Bryant's 28:31.79 and
Keanu Dugan's 28:49.52 were the final scoring times for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne will now take a week off before traveling to Greeneville, Tennessee, to take part in the SAC Conference Preview, hosted by Tusculum. The race is scheduled for Saturday, September 27th.Â
