GOLDSBORO, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne men's golf team picked up their first victory of the year, taking home the title at The Trojan, hosted by Mount Olive. This marks the first victory for the Bears in a non-LR hosted event since they won the Jay Jennison Cup in September of 2022.
The Bears scored rounds of 283-288-292 (863, -1) to win by five strokes over runner-up Barton. The Bulldogs, who were leading after day one, shot a 305 (+17) in round two to drop to second place. Barton's Winston Knobloch shot a three round score of 208 (-1) to take home medalist honors.
Matthew McDougall picked up his fourth top-10 finish of the year, taking second with a 213 (-1). He was one of three individuals to finish the tournament under par. Tying for fifth was
Slade Aliff and
Jake Morgan, who each shot a 217 (+1).
The Bears were tops in par-5 scoring with an average of 4.57 (-31). They led the field with with six eagles and were second with 55 birdies.
Matthew McDougall was the top par-5 scorer of the tournament, averaging a 4.33 (-8). McDougall,
Jake Morgan, and
Slade Aliff all had two eagles.
INDIVIDUAL SCORES
Men's Golf won't be back in action until they travel to Greenville, South Carolina, on April 19-21, to take part in the South Atlantic Conference Championships. The tournament will take place at The Preserve at Verdae.
