Wingate, N.C. - The Wingate University Men's Lacrosse Team (4-3, 3-1) earned a 15-6 win over Lenoir-Rhyne University (2-5, 0-2) Saturday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field in a Deep South Conference match.
Colin O'Donoghue (Cranberry Township, Pa.) finished with five goals and four assists while David Lee (Greensboro, N.C.) added four goals to lead the Bulldogs to the win.
L-R freshman Sam Ashton (New Market, Md.) scored twice while freshman Robert Darrow (Fort Myers, Fla.) added a goal and two assists in the losing effort.
Wingate held a 7-5 lead late in the first half before taking control with eight straight goals and kept Lenoir-Rhyne scoreless in the second half until a Bear goal with 1:55 remaining in the match.
The Bulldogs also held a 46-26 advantage in shots taken while goalkeeper Danny Dlugozima (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) was credited with the win as he picked up seven saves.?
L-R freshman Patrick Stasio (Williamsville, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots but suffered the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Wednesday at Moretz Stadium beginning at 4 p.m.? Wingate hosts Limestone Wednesday at 8 p.m.
