Catawba Men's Lacrosse Picks Up An 18-10 Win Over Lenoir-Rhyne

Freshman Tyler Kotch scored a team-high four goals for Lenoir-Rhyne in an 18-10 loss to Catawba at home Saturday afternoon in a Deep South Conference match.

Hickory, N.C. - The No. 12 Catawba College Men's Lacrosse Team (6-1, 3-0) scored eight straight goals in the second period in overtaking Lenoir-Rhyne University (2-7, 0-3), 18-10, in a Deep South Conference match Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.

Catawba's John Scheich (Waxhaw, N.C.) led all scorers with five goals and Braden Artem (Acton, Ontario, CANADA) added three goals and three assists as the Indians remained undefeated in league play.

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Tyler Kotch (Butler, Pa.) finished with a team-high four goals while freshmen Robert Darrow (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Anthony Mangili (Durham, N.C.) each scored twice in the losing effort.

Trailing 4-2, Catawba reeled off eight straight goals in the second period to take a 10-4 advantage en route to the win.

L-R scored four consecutive goals to start the final period that cut the margin to 14-10 but Catawba responded with four goals of its own to round out the scoring.

Marty Tuohy (Weymouth, Mass.) and Freddie Turcio (Guilford, Conn.) also scored three goals each for the Indians, who held a 49-36 advantage in shots taken and converted six-of-six extra-man opportunities.

Catawba's Michael Pecchia (Coquitlum, British Columbia, CANADA) picked up the win in goal after stopping 14 shots.? L-R?junior Patrick Stasio (Williamsville, N.Y.) suffered the loss despite making 20 saves.

Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Lakeland, Fla., to take on Florida Southern in a conference match on Friday evening at 7 p.m.? Catawba hosts Merrimack (Mass.) Monday at 7 p.m.
