Lakeland, Fla. - The Florida Southern University Men's Lacrosse Team (5-5, 3-1) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University (2-8, 0-4), 14-6, in a Deep South Conference match Friday evening at Bryant Stadium.
Mat Thompson (Akwesasne, Ontario, CANADA), Stephen Boyle (Selden, N.Y.) and Ike Hopper (Syracuse, N.Y.) all scored three goals each to lead the Moccasins to the victory.?
Hopper added four assists as well for Florida Southern, which held a 39-35 advantage in shots taken and a?35-29 edge in ground balls.
The Bears were led by sophomore Fred Waddle (Colorado Springs, Colo.) with two goals while freshman Sam Ashton (New Market, Md.) added a goal and an assist in the losing effort.
The two teams were tied at two after one period of play before Florida Southern took control with six straight goals en route to the win.
The Moccasins' Andrew Almansberger (Orlando, Fla.) was credited with the win in goal after stopping 14 shots while Bear junior goalkeeper Patrick Stasio (Williamsville, N.Y.) suffered the loss despite 12 saves.
Lenoir-Rhyne faces Rollins in Winter Park, Fla., in a league match Sunday beginning at Noon.? Florida Southern hosts Lindenwood (Mo.) on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.
