Hickory, N.C. - The Wheeling Jesuit University Men's Lacrosse Team (2-1) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University (1-4) by a 14-8 score Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.

Wheeling Jesuit's Jared Sims (Plain City, Ohio) led all scorers with six goals while Landon DelPrince (Powell, Ohio) added three goals to lead the Cardinals.

L-R freshman Anthony Mangili (Durham, N.C.) spearheaded the Bears' offense as he finished with a team-high four goals.

Meanwhile, freshman Sam Ashton (New Market, Md.) scored twice and freshmen Corron Boston (Durham, N.C.) and Luke Nealon (Naples, Fla.) each?added a goal in the loss for the Bears.

Wheeling Jesuit took control early as it jumped out to a 7-1 advantage on a goal by Sims with 3:53 left before intermission.

The Bears cut the lead to 8-5 on Ashton's second goal of the contest with 7:13 left in the third period but the Cardinals responded with seven straight goals to put the?match away.

Wheeling Jesuit held a 35-33 advantage in shots while its goalkeeper, Jim LePenna (Bel Air, Md.), tallied eight saves in the victory.? L-R freshman goalkeeper Patrick Stasio (Williamsville, N.Y.) stopped seven shots in the losing effort.

Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Dominican (Calif.) on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m.? Wheeling Jesuit plays St. Andrews Presbyterian in Laurinburg, N.C., on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
