Charlotte, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Lacrosse Team (4-10) ended its first season in school history with a 14-10 setback to Queens University (8-5) Saturday afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex.
The Royals' Branden Stansley (Sylvania, Ohio) scored a match-high four goals to go along with two assists while Jimmy Baker (Prince Fredrick, Md.) added three goals and a match-high five assists in leading Queens to the victory.
Freshman Anthony Mangili (Durham, N.C.) led Lenoir-Rhyne with three goals and freshman Luke Nealon (Naples, Fla.) scored twice for the Bears despite the setback.
Nealon gave L-R a 4-2 advantage just 25 seconds into the second period with his first goal of the day but Queens responded with five straight goals for a 7-4 lead and the Royals never trailed again.
After a Lenoir-Rhyne goal cut the lead to 7-5 late in the second period, Queens took control with four consecutive goals.
The Royals also held a 56-31 advantage in shots taken and a 41-24 edge in ground balls en route to the win.
For Lenoir-Rhyne, freshman Sam Ashton (New Market, Md.) added a team-high four assists and a goal?and freshman goalkeeper Gus Brighton (Chapel Hill, N.C.) stopped 17 shots in the losing effort.
Queens' goalkeeper, Brandon Macknew (Abington, Md.), was credited with the win after making five saves.
