Hickory, N.C. - The Wingate University Men's Lacrosse Team (4-3, 3-2) pulled out a 12-11 triple overtime win against Lenoir-Rhyne University (1-6, 0-2) Saturday afternoon in a Deep South Conference match at Moretz Stadium.
The Bulldogs' David Lee (Greensboro, N.C.) tallied the game-winning goal in the third overtime to lift Wingate to the win.? Derek Watts (Winston-Salem, N.C.) was credited with the assist on the play.
Wingate was led by Lee (three goals), Watts (two goals and three assists) and Bryan Bayliss (Lorton, Va.) with a team-high four goals in the?victory on the afternoon.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Ned Kaish (Atlanta, Ga.) scored four goals as well while sophomore Miles Britton (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) added a goal and two assists in the losing effort.?
Kaish now?leads the squad with 15 goals and 19 points?this year.
The Bears, which held leads of 9-6 in the third period and 10-8 in the fourth, forced overtime tied at 11 when sophomore Sam Ashton (New Market, Md.) scored with 1:43 remaining in the final period.
Wingate held the advantage in shots taken by a 48-45 count while Lenoir-Rhyne edged the Bulldogs in ground balls, 41-37.
In goal, Wingate's Danny Dlugozima (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) earned the win after stopping 12 shots while L-R freshman Alex Squires (Lawrenceville, Ga.) suffered the loss.? Squires tallied 11 saves in the contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne stays at home on Wednesday to face Lake Erie beginning at 4:00 p.m.? Wingate, meanwhile, takes on third-ranked Limestone in Gaffney, S.C., on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
