Florida Southern Men's Lacrosse Rallies To Defeat Lenoir-Rhyne, 12-5, Behind Late Surge

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Jon Hanlon was one of five players to score for the Bears in a 12-5 loss to Florida Southern in a league match Sunday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.

Hickory, N.C. - The Florida Southern Men's Lacrosse Team (4-5, 4-2) scored the match's final nine goals en route to a 12-5 win over Lenoir-Rhyne (2-8, 0-4) Sunday afternoon in a Deep South Conference contest at Moretz Stadium.

Dane Sorensen (Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA) led all scorers with four goals while Ricky DeMicco (Bel Air, Md.) scored twice for the Moccasins, who outscored the Bears by an 8-0 count in the fourth and final period to take the win.

Five different players scored for Lenoir-Rhyne including freshman Ned Kaish (Atlanta, Ga.), who finished with a goal and an assist on the day and now has a team-leading 20 goals and 26 points scored?on the year.

L-R scored the first three goals of the third period to take a 5-3 advantage capped off by a goal from freshman Jon Hanlon (Haymarket, Va.) but the Bears were held scoreless the rest of the way.

DeMicco's first of two goals gave Florida Southern the lead for good midway through the final period as the Moccasins held a 48-23 advantage in shots taken and a 42-26 edge in ground balls en route the win.

In goal, Florida Southern's Andrew Almansberger (Orlando, Fla.) earned the win after stopping six shots while Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Alex Squires (Lawrenceville, Ga.) suffered the loss despite tallying 15 saves on the day.

Lenoir-Rhyne faces Tampa on Friday in Tampa, Fla., for a 7:00 p.m., contest before playing Saint Leo in Saint Leo, Fla., on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m.? Florida Southern, meanwhile, next takes on Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C., on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
