LR’s Jackson Bailey Earns Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Honors For The Second Straight Year

Rock Hill, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University's Jackson Bailey has been named the 2017-18 South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, league officials announced earlier today.

Bailey, a senior from Matthews, N.C., with a 3.72 grade point average, wins the honor for the second straight year.  Bailey graduated this past Friday with a bachelor's degree in finance.

"Jackson (Bailey) has been an absolute pleasure to coach over the past four years," said Lenoir-Rhyne Head Men's Golf Coach Elliot Gealy.  "He has been an excellent ambassador for Lenoir-Rhyne University and has been the epitome of class on and off the golf course.  I am very happy that Jackson can cap a great career with this special award."

Bailey has captained the Bears for the past three years and won the prestigious Bob Dibble "Spirit of the Game" Award in 2017.

Bailey played in every round this year – 22 total – and had a stroke average of 76.00.  Bailey led Lenoir-Rhyne to a first-place finish at the J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate (March 11-12 in Monroe, N.C.) and a runner-up spot at the Richard Rendleman Invitational (March 5-6 in Salisbury, N.C.) this year.

Bailey is a three-time member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and an eight-time honoree on Lenoir-Rhyne University's Dean List.  Bailey was also a 2017 NCAA Division II Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar.

Bailey has served on Lenoir-Rhyne's Student-Athlete Advisory Council and was a Resident Assistant at Morgan Dormitory.  Bailey was also Lenoir-Rhyne's Men's Golf representative at the Rotary Club and has served as a tennis instructor and maintenance assistant at the Weddington Swim and Racquet Club.

During the summer of 2017, Bailey served as a sales clerk at the Alan Cochrane Allstate Insurance Agency and looks to pursue a career in finance.

The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the league's championship sports, and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. Winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
