HICKORY, N.C. – The Baseball Team dropped a pair of games to the visiting Mount Olive Trojans on Saturday afternoon, 16-2 and 7-3. The Trojans were predicted to finish second in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll after winning 36 games a year ago.
After falling 16-2 in the opener, Lenoir-Rhyne gave up six runs in the first inning of game two, but
Alex Shirazi settled in and the bats began to wake up for the Bears in. Shirazi gave up just two earned runs and struck out six Trojans in his five innings of work. Reliever
Hunter Martin came in for the final two innings and kept UMO scoreless with three punch outs.
The Bears were efficient at the plate in the second game, scoring three runs on three hits, and each came from a separate player.
Matthew Freeman,
E.J. Ranel, and
Corbin Watson all earned base knocks and
Brock Johnson, Ranel and
Clayton Jeffries were credited with one run batted in each.
Lenoir-Rhyne looks to salvage Sunday's game with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
