MORGANTON, N.C. - In their final event of the fall season, the Lenoir-Rhyne men's golf team finished 4th in the 18-team field in the Donald Ross Intercollegiate at Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton. The host Bears were in the lead after the first two rounds, but slightly fell off on the second day to finish 4th. Mount Olive took home the team championship, and Belmont Abbey and Erskine finished just ahead of the Bears in the final team standings.
Individually for the Bears,
Matthew Raybould led the way, finishing 5th in the tournament with a 1-over par 211. He shot even par in his final round.
Liam Waldron finished tied for 14th with a 214 (+4),
Tyler Hashmi was one stroke behind with a 215 (+5),
Jack Alward shot 220 (+10), and
Dawson Walker shot 221 (+11).
"Obviously a little disappointed with how today went," said LR head coach
Elliot Gealy. "Our goal yesterday was to put ourselves in position to win with more of a championship mentality, and we did that yesterday playing really solid in the afternoon when the weather got a little more difficult. Unfortunately for the guys and the coaching staff we have to kind of stew over this for 3-4 months before we get it going again the spring season, but as competitors, I have no doubt that we're going to come back strong and put the work in in the offseason to really make amends for this and hopefully we get into contention to win more of these in the future."
This is the final fall event for the Bears, but it was their best finish of the season.
