Lanham Spins Gem, Mackey Homers Twice as Bears Spilt with Wingate

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Hickory, N.C.-- In the nightcap, Matt Mackey went 3-4 with a home run, double and five RBIs and Joshua Lanham threw seven scoreless innings striking out ten to move to 5-0 as the Bears split with Wingate for the second straight day. In game one, Mackey homered but Wingate's Hunter Dula struck out thirteen in a complete-game win.

STATS OF GAME ONE:
  • Wingate got unearned runs in the third and fourth before adding a two-spot in the fifth off Bears starter Andrew Patrick. Patrick (5-2) went 4 1/3 innings on the afternoon only allowing three hits but walked four in the loss. 
  • Wingate's starter Hunter Dula got the win throwing a complete game while striking out thirteen Bears.
  • Bears were limited to just two singles by E.J. Ranel and Wade Cuda before Mackey broke up the shutout with his seventh home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the 7th. 
  • LR got zeros from Ian Foggo and Joey Cobb out of the bullpen.
STATS OF GAME TWO: 
  • Ranel got the Bears on the board with a solo shot in the bottom of the first. 
  • Mackey stayed hot with a three-run home run in the third inning to give the Bears a 4-0 lead. 
  • Damian Pierce, in his second start of the season, hit a two-run homer in the 5th to give the Bears a 6-0 lead.
  • Three more runs came across for LR in the 6th. Connor Smith's bases-loaded walk then another Mackey hit drove in two more.
  • Lanham (5-0) threw seven scoreless innings, only allowing four singles while striking out ten. It was Lanham's second double-digit strikeout output of the season.
  • Kanan Butler and Ben Friebel gave the Bears scoreless innings for their fourth shutout of the year. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Mackey finished the weekend series 8-14 (.571) with three HRs and 10 RBIs.
  • Connor Smith entered today five for his last nine at the dish with two home runs and a triple in his last three games. 
  • Galassi (10) and Ranel (8) entered today No.1-2 in the SAC conference in home runs. Ranel hit his 9th of the year in game two today. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate are the top two teams in the SAC in ERA. LR led the SAC with a 3.42 ERA heading into today while the Bulldogs are right below them at 4.37.
  • Pierce's home run was his first since 2/1/20 against Southern Westleyan.
  • Lanham lowered his ERA to 2.09 with seven scoreless innings.
