MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Swimming Team was handed its second-consecutive dual meet loss with a 171-90 defeat to Mars Hill.
Levi McRea was the lone Bear to win an individual event; the sophomore took the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:03.59.
The Hickory, N.C. native also recorded two second place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley, with times of 2:01.95 and 2:03.28, respectively.
The Bears had two second place finishes in two relay events. In the 200-yard medley relay, the combined effort of Jake Simpson, Christopher Forsey, Matthew Stein, and Christopher Glebus finished with a time of 1:39.14. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Renato Herran, Glebus, Forsey, and Stein united for a time of 3:19.33
Individually, Forsey recorded two second place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard breaststroke. The sophomore had a time of 1:01.71 in the backstroke event and a time of 2:21.16 in the breaststroke race.
McRea and Forsey were not the only sophomores to make a splash in the results, as three more second-year students recorded second place finishes.
Stein and Glebus, who participated in both relay races, competed in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles, respectively. Stein recorded a time of 23.34 in the 50-yard event with Glebus posting a 48.81 time in the 100-yard race. In addition, Herran finished as a runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.13.
Meanwhile, the Bears had two freshmen who came in second for their respective events. Zachary Clendenning, the Denver, N.C. native, recorded a time of 2:05.37 in the 200-yard butterfly. And for Brooks Higginbotham, the Auburn, Ala. native had a time of 5:07.26 in the 500-yard freestyle.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Swimming Team will return to the pool for its first home dual meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 21 vs. King. The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Shuford Pool.
