HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Swimming Team captured its first dual meet victory of the season with a 143-110 victory over King.
The Bears swept the relay events by winning the 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle races. Both teams were comprised of Matthew Stein, Christopher Forsey, Renato Herran, and Christopher Glebus. The group of four recorded a 3:37.34 in the medley and a 3:17.77 in the freestyle.
In addition to his efforts in the relays, Herran also notched two first place finishes in individual races. The sophomore swept the butterfly events with a time of 23.58 in the 50-yard race and a time of 53.03 in the 100-yard race. In the 50-yard event, the Bears swept the podium with Zachary Clendenning (25.21) and Jacob Chapman (26.77) coming in second and third, respectively.
Forsey also notched an individual victory in the fastest race in the pool with a time of 22.65 in the 50-yard freestyle. The Concord, N.C. native also recorded second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:27.23.
Although Glebus made an impact in the freestyle relay, the sophomore had a couple of runner-up finishes in the individual freestyle events. The Greensboro, N.C. native notched a 49.15 in the 100-yard freestyle and a 1:51.89 in the 200-yard freestyle.
Meanwhile for Stein, the sophomore had two second place results in the backstroke events. The Waxhaw, N.C. native had a time of 25.95 in the 50-yard backstroke and a time of 56.08 in the 100-yard backstroke.
Levi McRea had another great performance in the pool by winning two separate events for the Bears. The sophomore took the top spot in two distance events with times of 4:56.47 and 10:24.71 in the 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyle events, respectively.
Coming behind McRea in both events was freshman Brooks Higginbotham. The Auburn, Ala. native had a time of 5:07.52 in the 500-yard race and a time of 10:31.12 in the 1000-yard race.
In the 100-yard breaststroke event, Cordin Schrum recorded a second-place finish with a time of 1:04.82.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Swimming Team will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28 for a home dual meet against Wingate. The competition is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start at the Shuford Pool.
