ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Golf Team finished in 15th place in their spring opener at St. John's Golf & Country Club.
On the opening day of the tournament, all schools competed in the first two of three rounds and the Bears were 15th on the leaderboard with a 603 (+27) score.
Sam Mace and Liam Waldron both had good starts to the tournament with each shooting a 73 (+1) in the first round, while Holt Allison improved his score by two strokes from the opening round to the second with a 73 (+1) finish.
As a team, Lenoir-Rhyne shot a 296 (+16) after the first round but saw a slight regression the second time through the course with a 307 (+30) score.
When the team returned to the course on Tuesday, the Bears improved from their Round 2 score and shot a 298 (+10) in the final round. Allison had the best round out of any Bear during the week with shooting below par with a 70 (-2) score. Finan also saved his best round for last with a solid 73 (+1) final.
Anderson won the tournament as they blew away the competition with a 848 (-16) score, out-shooting the runners-up, Georgia Southwestern, by 14 strokes.
The Bears will return to action in two weeks for the Hurricane Invitational in Albany, Ga. on Feb. 27.
