HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Swimming Team capped off its regular season with a 133-102 dual meet victory over Chowan, giving the Bears five-straight wins heading into next month's conference championships.
LR swept the relay events with first place times in the 400-yard medley (3.37.40) and 400-yard freestyle (3:23.11) races. Both events were comprised of Matthew Stein, Renato Herran, Christopher Forsey, and Christopher Glebus.
Building off his success in the relay events, Forsey tallied two individual wins in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke. In his first race, the Concord, N.C. native recorded a time of 1:51.17 to take the top spot in the freestyle. Then, in the backstroke, the sophomore delivered a 2:18.43 posting to edge out teammate Davis Hull (2:25.06) for the victory.
Herran also picked up an individual victory in the 100-yard butterfly event. The sophomore registered a time of 53.41 to win the race by nearly three seconds. In the 100-yard freestyle, Herran finished second to Chowan's Aleksei Belolipetskii, who had a time of 48.15.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Glebus took a second-place finish with his recorded time of 2:04.97. The sophomore also finished behind Chowan's Belolipetskii, who finished with a time of 2:03.52.
Levi McRea had two individual victories in the 1000-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke. The sophomore posted a time of 10:06.96 in the freestyle, which was over 25 seconds faster than the runner-up and teammate Brooks Higginbotham, who notched a 10:32.23 time. In the backstroke, McRea recorded a time of 1:58.20, clearing the competition by over six seconds.
The Bears also stacked up second-place finishes with Carson Cochrane in the 100-yard breaststroke and Jake Simpson in the 500-yard freestyle. Cochrane, a native of Keller, Texas, was second to Chowan's Belolipetskii with a time of 59.57. Simpson, a native of Gastonia, N.C., finished with a time of 5:22.71 behind Chowan's Dimitrije Markovic, who recorded a 5:13.94 posting.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Swimming Team will return to the pool for the SAC Championships, slated to take place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center from Feb. 14-17 in Greensboro, N.C.
