HICKORY, N.C. - Following a national quarterfinal appearance, five members of the Lenoir-Rhyne men's lacrosse team have been named to the USILA All-South Region team.
Donovan Powell (Attack) was named to the first team,
Matthew Mancini (Face-off) and
Mac Murphy (Defense) to the second team, and
John Mink (Long Stick Midfield) and
Morgan Madish (Midfield) were honorable mention honorees.
Donovan Powell was Lenoir-Rhyne's lone first team honoree. The senior had a historic season, finishing with 88 points (53g, 35a), the second most in program history and tied for the sixth most in the country this year. He scored in every game this year, highlighted by an eight goal, two assist outing against nationally ranked Catawba on March 18th.
Second team honorees were
Matthew Mancini and
Mac Murphy. Mancini finished his career with 773 face-off victories, second in program history. He boasted a .652 face-off win percentage this year, 12th in the country. Murphy, just a freshman, was one of two Bears named to the All-SAC First Team. The defender started all 17 games this season and led the team with 19 caused turnovers. He helped Lenoir-Rhyne average just 9.00 goals allowed per game, 15th in Division II.
John Mink and
Morgan Madish were named Honorable Mention All-Region honorees. Mink is a 1x SAC Defensive Player of the week and finished the season with 39 grounds balls, the most of any non face-off specialist. His 17 caused turnovers was second behind Murphy. Madish is making his second appearance on a USILA All-Region team. The junior midfielder closed out the year with 39 points (24g, 15a). He scored a hat trick in the Bears' national quarterfinal game against Anderson and had a four goal, three assist performance against Newberry early in the year.
