HICKORY, NC -
Mackenzie Wainwright,
Cole Stanford, and
Sal Carricato have all been named D2CCA All-Americans, making it the second All-American team each of the three have been on this year. In addition to those national honors, seven Bears were named American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Southeast Region honorees, with
Mackenzie Wainwright taking home Region Player of the Year honors.
Wainwright is having a season for the ages, as he ranks first all-time in LR single-season history in at bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs, total bases, and slugging percentage. He is also second in RBI's, fourth in triples, and fifth in batting average. Nationally he is just eight runs and 10 hits away from setting new all-time DII marks in those categories. This season alone he is a 2X First Team All-American, a 3X Region Player of the Year, and won the SAC Player of the Year.
Joining him on the All-American team were
Cole Stanford and
Sal Carricato. Stanford, a two-time Region Player of the Week award winner, is batting .405 with 75 hits, 51 runs, 49 RBI's, 19 home runs, and 16 doubles. He hit a home run in all three of the Bears' region games last week.
Carricato
is Lenoir-Rhyne's all-time home runs leader, as his long ball against Belmont Abbey gave him 50 for his career. The senior from New York is batting .377 with 84 RBI's, 78 hits, 62 runs, 22 home runs, and 18 doubles. He leads the team in RBI's and is just eight away from ranking top-25 all-time in Division II for single-season RBI's.
Being named to the ABCA All-Region Team was that trio of Wainwright, Stanford, and Carricato, as well as second baseman
Cole Laskowski, right fielder
Owen Blackledge, and starting pitchers
Andrew Harlow and
William Girardi. All four were named to the All-Southeast Region Second Team while Wainwright, Stanford, and Carricato were on the first team.
This season isn't over yet as LR prepares to fight for a national title in Cary, N.C., this upcoming week.
