Adam Maples was a three-year starting quarterback and blocking back for the Lenoir-Rhyne College football team from 1958-1960, including the 1960 NAIA National Championship team. Â Maples was named an All-American in 1960 as well as garnering the Kirkland Blocking Trophy in 1959 and 1960. Â He also received the Lee Kirby Award in 1960. Â Maples helped to start the L-R golf team in 1957 and played for four seasons. Â After graduating from Lenoir-Rhyne in 1961, Maples went to work for Carnation Company. Â In 1969, he became president of Statewide Brokerage Company at the age of 30. Â From 1970 to 1979, Maples was the president of the Charlotte Food Brokers Association. Â He became president of Carolina Brokers (now Acosta Sales) in 1985 and was named to the Board of Directors of the Metrolina Food Bank in 1995. Â That same year, he was also named vice president and board member of the Charlotte Grocery Manufacturing Association.Â
