Adam Maples was a three-year starting quarterback and blocking back for the Lenoir-Rhyne College football team from 1958-1960, including the 1960 NAIA National Championship team.  Maples was named an All-American in 1960 as well as garnering the Kirkland Blocking Trophy in 1959 and 1960.  He also received the Lee Kirby Award in 1960.  Maples helped to start the L-R golf team in 1957 and played for four seasons.  After graduating from Lenoir-Rhyne in 1961, Maples went to work for Carnation Company.  In 1969, he became president of Statewide Brokerage Company at the age of 30.  From 1970 to 1979, Maples was the president of the Charlotte Food Brokers Association.  He became president of Carolina Brokers (now Acosta Sales) in 1985 and was named to the Board of Directors of the Metrolina Food Bank in 1995.  That same year, he was also named vice president and board member of the Charlotte Grocery Manufacturing Association.
