Jerry Robinson, like his twin brother Gene, was a football and baseball standout for Lenoir-Rhyne and later had a fine record as a coach. Â Robinson earned All-North State Conference honors in football, in 1951 and '52, and intercepted nine passes the same year Gene had 14 for a Robinson total of 23. He scored 54 points during the season of 1952. Â Jerry hit a dramatic home run with two down in the bottom of the ninth inning of his final baseball game for L-R to give the Bears an 8-7 win over Elon in the third game of a playoff series for the league championship. Â After his graduation in 1953, Jerry played a couple of years for the U.S. Army All-Star Team in the Far East and then embarked on a career as a teacher coach. Â That career included a span from 1962 to 1970 at Enka High School in Enka, N.C., where his baseball team won the state 3-A championship. Â He served as athletic director and head football coach at Appomattox, Va., High School from 1970 to 1975, compiling a 30-17-3 mark. Â Robinson left coaching in 1979 and moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., where he was employed by Realty World and joined the Million Dollar Club as a member of Adams, Cameron & Company.
