Robert Miller played football for four seasons at Lenoir-Rhyne and two each in baseball and track. Â He graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne in 1958 with a degree in business. Â Miller set a then-record with a 92-yard punt return for a touchdown in 1955. Â In 1956 and 1957, Miller led the Bears in punting. Â He also scored four touchdowns in his first-ever start at tailback against Newport News in 1956 and finished that season as the third leading scorer (54) in the North State Conference. Â He was also named to the all-conference team by the Charlotte News in 1956. Â As a senior in 1957, Miller led the team with seven pass interceptions, including then a school-record three against Catawba College. Â That interception record stood for 34 years before it was broken. Â After Lenoir-Rhyne, Miller served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. Â While in the USMC, Miller played two seasons for the Quantico Marines as a halfback and a defensive back and the team won back-to-back National Service Championships. Â After leaving the Marines in 1963, Miller served as a vice president for the Collins and Aikman Corporation from 1963 to 1982. Â In 1982, he became the president and managing partner of Falcon Industries, Inc. Â He served two terms as President of the Congregation of Macedonian Lutheran Church in Burlington, N.C., and as a member of the Lenoir-Rhyne's Board of Visitors. Â He served as the President of the Piedmont Educational Foundation/Bears Club at Lenoir-Rhyne and Chairman of the Clarence Stasavich Endowment Campaign.
