Marcus Claire Midgett was a standout on the Bear football team during some of the most successful years the program has enjoyed. Â Midgett, also a four-year letterwinner in track, began his excellent four-year career on the Bear Football Team in 1958 by being named the team's Most Outstanding Freshman. Â Two years later, he was an All-State selection during Lenoir-Rhyne's National Championship season. Â The two-time all-conference performer also holds the school record for longest run from scrimmage (99 yards). Â Midgett, who won the Lee Kirby (Team Before Self) Award in 1961, was very active in the Catawba Valley. Â In addition to being a former member of the Maiden Town Council and a former Maiden Mayor Pro-Tem, Midgett also served on the Piedmont Education Foundation Board of Trustees and the Catawba Valley Community College Computer Advisory Board. Â Midgett also served as the Lenoir-Rhyne Sports Hall of Fame Committee Chairman.
