Leo Kantorski lettered four years in both men's basketball and baseball (1947-51) for the Bears. On the hardwood, Kantorski started all four seasons and captained the squad for two years. He was part of the 1949-50 North State Championship squad and earned team MVP honors as a senior in the 1950-51 squad as he led the team to a 17-7 mark. Â Kantorski was also a member of the squad that defeated North Carolina, 79-78, in triple overtime at the new Hickory Community Center. Â At the time, Kantorski established the league free throw shooting record by connecting on 13-of-13 attempts against Elon. Â On the diamond, he earned all-conference honors twice (once as a catcher in 1948 and once as a pitcher in 1950) and captained the squad one season. Â A native of Arnold, Pa., Kantorski worked for Burrell Construction and Air Products Inc., before retiring. Â Kantorski and his wife have one daughter, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
