James R. (Jim) Edmiston is hailed as one of the finest, if not the finest, offensive lineman ever to play at Lenoir-Rhyne. Â He was also a key part of the Bear football program at the height of its glory. Â Edmiston played in three NAIA National Championship games while at L-R, including the 1960 game in which the Bears won the title. A team captain in 1962, Edmiston was a three-time All-Carolinas Conference choice (1960-62) and two-time All-District 26 pick (1961-62). Â He was also named to the NAIA All-America team, chosen the Carolinas Conference 'Lineman of the Year,' and earned a spot on the Greensboro Daily News All-State Squad. Â During Edmiston's career at Lenoir-Rhyne, the Bears compiled a 40-3-3 overall record. Â After graduation, Edmiston served as a security official for Southern Railway in Charlotte, N.C.
