Thomas ('57) played three years on the L-R baseball team in 1952, 1953 and 1956. In those years, Thomas earned All-North State Conference honors while leading the Bears' squad to three conference championships.  Thomas, a lifetime .310 hitter and 20-3 pitcher, served in the U.S. Army in 1954-55 while being stationed in Korea.  Thomas was employed for 41 years as a Nationwide Insurance Agent and worked with the Iredell County Health Department.  Active in the community, Thomas won the National Community Service Award on three different occasions (1975, 1987 and 1989) as well as the Jaycee's Outstanding Young Man in Alexander County Social Services Board.  Thomas and his wife, Katherine of 50 years, have four children (Cindy, Cathy, Stan and Laura - deceased) and seven grandchildren.
